Manchester United Struggle Against Newcastle
Manchester United were lucky to secure a 1-1 draw against second-bottom Newcastle after a disappointing performance yesterday, 27 December.
Playing for the first time in 16 days, United fell behind within the first 10 minutes of the game, as Newcastle’s star forward Allan Saint-Maximin shot the ball past David de Gea.
Newcastle remained in control for much of the game, posing a greater attacking threat, even as star forwards Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin were forced off with injury.
Edinson Cavani managed to score an equaliser in the 71st-minute, scoring an undeserved draw for the Red Devils.
Football pundit, Gary Neville, called United’s performance “a mess”, also noting that Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes seemed to have particularly poor body language, and were complaining all game.
Neville said: “Something isn’t right in there. I don’t know what it is, but there is definitely whinging going on – they are all at each other and not helping each other.”
United is now 7th on the Premier League table.
